Abstract

Research indicates that a key component of being a successful reader is to have mastery of sight word recognition. However, teaching strategies for sight word mastery is limited. Research states that there are many different types of learners: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile. Brain research states, that in order for mastery of new information, it must transfer in to the long-tern memory. Using repetitions of song and/or rhythm to present subject matter stores it in ones long-term memory. Therefore, a hypermedia instructional approach to sight word mastery at the kindergarten level is suggested. This action research will teach kindergarten sight words with visuals, text, and music in a PowerPoint presentation using a LCD projector. Students will watch the power point daily singing and practicing writing the sight words.
