The first issue of the Chironian appeared on October 22, 1884 (Volume 1, number 1). At first, it was a journal that was edited and managed by students. In 1906, the Alumni Association took over and published the Chironian as a monthly journal. In 1918, the Chironian was discontinued due to lack of funds. In 1938, the Alumni Association began to publish the Chironian again but this time as a quarterly journal. They renamed it "the Quarterly of the Alumni Association of the New York Medical College". Due to the change in name, the first issue in 1939 was designated Volume 1, Number 1.In 1941, the journal's name was changed back to Chironian but it was incorrectly listed as Volume 3, Number 2. This error was corrected in 1968 and the Chironian jumped from Volume 30 to Volume 84.
