Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine if positive reinforcements can have an effect on positive student attendance. Student truancy and tardiness negatively affects the teacher's ability to teach, the students’ ability to learn and the school's ability to collect money to fund programs to enrich the educational experience. While consistent consequences for negative attendance do have some positive effect, are there positive reinforcements that can be utilized to reward and encourage increased positive attendance within students? There will be schoolwide positive attendance challenges for students to strive to meet and receive positive reinforcement for doing so. Individual students who demonstrate varying levels of improvement will receive varying levels of positive reinforcement for their efforts. Also, teachers will collaborate regarding ways to engage students and reward them for outstanding attendance or measurable improvement.
