Abstract
This project thesis explores the importance of family literacy programs through the lens of six model urban school programs. Using the National Standards for Parent/Family Improvement Programs and the U.S. Federal government's definition for family literacy services a matrix was used to evaluate each program for effectiveness. The matrix as an evaluative tool and its production is described in detail, as is the data regarding parent literacy programs in the United States and Europe.
