Abstract
In order to meet the demands of the new Common Core State Standards for Mathematics CCSSM) as well as prepare students for college and career, it is necessary to radically change the way teachers teach and students learn. A new workflow is proposed for how to transform the environment in math class in order to aid students in becoming self-directed, mastery-driven, and collaborative learners. The key components of the classroom model are mastery learning, student-ownership, standards-based grading, and differentiation. These four ideas, when put in practice together with 1:1 technology, foster a love for learning and respect individual students' interests and creativity. The end product, a website, includes step-by-step procedures for teachers interested in setting up this type of classroom with the overall goal to create students equipped with a deep understanding of math concepts as well as 21st century skills.
